June 20, 2017

Both last year and this year, my birthday was spent with almost strangers.  Last year I had just started my Disney College Program and was still getting to know my five roommates, this year I started a Professional Internship and moved in again, with a stranger.  However, I must say, that I am incredibly lucky.  My DCP roommates ended up being five of the best people I’ve ever met, and my new roommate Chrissy is no exception.

I am not really “big” into birthdays (especially now that I’m getting old).  I didn’t expect anything special this year, but boy did everyone go all out for me!

It started with Chrissy tracking down Woody and Buzz after working third-shift to get their autographs on a birthday card for me.  I checked the mailbox right before work and had a small stack of thoughtful cards to read through. When I got to work, balloons had been delivered to my cubicle.  We had a flower vendor present at work and I got to keep some of the flowers.  When I got home, there was cupcake “cake” Chrissy took the time to make me after working a ten hour overnight shift.  Not to mention all of the texts, messages, and Facebook posts.

We went to dinner at 1900 Park Fare which is at The Grand Floridian resort.  It is a character dinner buffet and I got to meet Price Charming (sigh), Cinderella, Anastasia, Drizella, and the Evil Stepmother. I was hoping I could meet the Fairy Godmother, because she deserves a HUGE thank you from me, but she must have had other plans.

The food was delicious. However, I found that all-you-can-eat mini cheesecakes are not healthy for me.  After my third cheesecake, our server was nice enough to bring me birthday cupcakes.  I have learned from working at my internship that those cupcakes are $63/dozen so I felt pretty special 🙂

We headed to the Magic Kingdom after dinner to watch Happily Ever After.  But not before Chrissy spoiled me some more and bought me my very first pair of Mickey slippers or as she calls them “Mick Slips”.  Now we can match!  We watched the firework show, went to the dance party and somehow managed to get FastPasses for Peter Pan?!  Disney magic at its best.

We got our Rapunzel picture taken by the lanterns and rode Peter Pan.  I couldn’t have asked for a better day.  Thank you to everyone that made me feel so loved while I was away from home.  It was one of the best birthdays I have had.  Hopefully 23 will bring a year that tops 22 (although I think that will be quite difficult).
